On 24 August 2017, the Indian Supreme Court issued a ruling with potentially important consequences for the country’s biometric identification program (Aadhaar), finding that a right to privacy is part of the fundamental rights to life and liberty enshrined in the Indian constitution (Art. 21).
It should be highlighted that earlier this year, in may 2017, the personal data of over 130 millions Indian citizens leaked on the internet causing great concerns about cybersecurity in the Country.
